Summer greetings from Broomfield! Now that I’ve been back from my mini-sabbatical for three-plus weeks, here’s a summary of my time away (to add to my update from last month): Reading — One thing I love to do but haven’t done much of these last few years is read. So, during my six weeks off, I listened to several audiobooks, including The Listening Path: Six Weeks to Deeper Creativity by Julia Cameron and Transforming Trauma: A Seven-Step Process for Spiritual Healing by James Finley and Caroline Myss, and I read two e-books Jesus’s Truth: Life in Parables by Yung Suk Kim and Colorado Forts: Historic Outposts on the Wild Frontier by Jolie Anderson Gallagher. Reflecting — I did a silent, overnight retreat in Arvada, met with my spiritual director, and saw my therapist twice and tried EMDR for the first time (although I’m looking for a new therapist due to insurance changes). I attended two online gatherings, as well — one called “Reciprocity” through The Center for Courage & Renewal and one titled “The Healing Path” through the Center for Action and Contemplation. Recreating — I slept in a bit, exercised, got away with the boys, got mani-pedis with the girls and attended my first-ever concert at Red Rocks (Michael Franti and Spearhead). Although I’m still adjusting to my new normal, I’m grateful to have had a break. In other news, Maegan decided to attend school in Missouri this fall, and she’s going on a mission trip to Uganda next month. Ryan got to attend two Nuggets playoff games and the championship victory parade in downtown Denver. Addie graduated from high school and just got a new job at a local restaurant. Ryan and Addie both will be starting classes at a local community college in August. And last but not least, Tony is plugging away at his pseudo-fast food-restaurant, working out at the gym and taking the summer off from school. |
