About The Author

Welcome! My name is Marrton Dormish. (If you're curious about the spelling of my given name, click here.) I'm a fourth-generation Coloradan. Although I was born and raised in Denver, I've lived in Missouri, New Mexico and Spain. In 2004, my family and I moved to Broomfield, Colo., which occupies the ancestral homelands of the Hinono'eiteen (Arapaho), the Tsitsistas (Cheyenne) and the Nuu-ci (Ute) nations.

I serve as a minister of presence, justice and memory at The Refuge, a hub for healing community, social action and creative collaboration that's been serving Broomfield and the North Metro area since 2006. Among other things, I walk alongside and companion people in need, help catalyze local affordable housing efforts, and facilitate “pilgrimages from below” to nearby sites of historical and cultural significance.

My family and I live in a bi-level not far from some beautiful, city-designated open space. Sometimes, we hear coyotes howling in the night.
