Lots to recommend this month, everyone — so without further ado here are my favorite tweets, movies, documentaries, books and one article from January, and by that I mean stuff I came across this month:
Tweets
Movies & Documentaries
Black KkKlansman — The true story of a Colorado Springs detective who infiltrated the KKK.
On the Basis of Sex — Another movie based on the glass-ceiling-shattering true story of current Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
What Was Ours — An award-winning 2017 documentary about the impact of white American expansion and the loss of Native American homelands.
Blue Gold — Another documentary, this one about the global scarcity of freshwater that is usable and renewable for human and environmental use.
Books
Less by Andrew Sean Greer — A Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about a failed novelist who receives a wedding invitation and decides to skip town.
There, There: A Novel by Tommy Orange — Listened to the audiobook on Overdrive — a unique and powerful look into American history and Native American experience.
The Reckoning by John Grisham — The latest page-turner from America’s master of the legal thriller.
Burying White Privilege: Resurrecting a Badass Christianity by Miguel de la Torre — A provocative and timely book by a local seminary professor.
The Didache: The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles edited by Owles — An interesting read, but a little disappointing, as this early compilation of Christian church teaching was more prescriptive than I expected. The actual Didache itself is pretty short. The commentary on the Didache is not.
