An end-of-2023 appeal

“But the angel said…’Do not be afraid…'”

This year as Advent approaches and the beginning of the church year with it, I, too, am preparing for a new beginning, as I will be leaving my formal roles at the Refuge on Dec. 1.

I’m beyond grateful for the 15 years I’ve been a part of the Refuge community, and the 10 years I’ve helped steward the Refuge Cafe day shelter. Knowing the work there remains in good hands helps make my transition easier.

It also helps that long-time colleagues and friends experiencing homelessness, alike, have helped me recognize and acknowledge the unique energy that I bring to identifying tangible community needs and catalyzing ways to meet them.

Moving forward, I plan to double down on my ministry of presence, justice and memory in Broomfield and beyond by devoting more of my time to things like companioning people on the margins of accepted society and history (while helping amplify their voices and stories); advocating for 100-percent housing stability in Broomfield and the North Metro Area; and cultivating the budding Broomfield Sister Cities relationship with the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes headquartered in Concho, Okla.

To do all that and more, I need your help, since I now have to replace the Refuge stipend that accounted for nearly half of my income. The rest of my salary comes from individuals, families, partner agencies and faith communities who financially support my work via the Christian missional order Global Service Associates (GSA). Since I’m a commissioned member of GSA, all donations to support my work are tax-deductible.

Would you please consider making an extra-generous, year-end donation as I begin my transition? I need 30 new $100-per-month supporters and $6,000 in one-time contributions to start 2024 in a sustainable way.

To give online, CLICK HERE, select my name from the “Project or Member Designation” dropdown menu, and follow the prompts from there. Or to give by mail, make your check out to “Global Service Associates,” write “Dormish” in the memo line, and send it to: P.O. Box 20425, Boulder, CO 80308.

Thank you for your consideration.

May Jesus’ Kingdom come and may peace be with you this Advent season,

P.S. In case you’re looking for some non-fiction over the holidays, read The Sweep Report: Housing from below in Broomfield, Colorado, USA.

I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people…'”
